Shopping Thrift Stores: Should I get that item?

Shopping Thrift Stores:   Should I get that item?

How many times have you found a fabulous item at a thrift store that you just aren’t sure what to do with or if you will wear it or what to wear it with?

or even a small stain (I will share my secret that works 9 out of 10 times!)

“How to style a fabulous thrift store find?” …

I found this curtain panel for $2.99 and I wasn’t sure what it would look like as a table cloth.  I typed in “blue white tablecloth” in Pinterest and found this … I LOVE IT!

This curtain panel was $2.99 and I use it as a table cloth!

Here is a “boho” style blouse for $3.99.   Its not really my style, I thought my daughter might like it so I typed in “boho top”.

I found this huge bulletin board for $4.99, I have paid $40 for this size @ Office Depot.   After looking through Pinterest, I decided it was a good make-over project!

This dress is a perfect example of trying a “trend” for pennies on the dollar!   Radiant orchid is the color of the year and for $5.99 I can be right on trend!

Oh yes ….. now for my secret formula to remove stains 9 times out of 10.

I pick up awesome clothes at thrift stores and I am not afraid of a stain (which is usually why the item was donated).   I put Dawn on overnight and it is amazing!

Folex is another miracle worker!

Too Cheap Blondes recently shot an upcoming episode with Mirror/Mirror, teaching you how to re-create a “style” with either a magazine article or a Pinterest pin.

We had such a fun time creating this episode at Goodwill River Oaks in Houston, Texas.  They have agreed to put aside all the clothing from this episode and put them out on special rack “As Seen on Mirror/Mirror”.

An AMAZING Day ~ Meeting some of our Readers at Goodwill Store in San Antonio

As an official blogger for Goodwill of San Antonio they recently asked me to do a workshop at a Grand Opening of their newest store @ Loop 1604 and Bulverde Road.

One of the BEST parts of this incredible weekend was meeting a few readers who came to my workshop (Pinteresting Ideas) to meet me!   I can’t tell you how special that was to know that the time I have put into this blog is touching people and that they took time out of their busy schedules to come say hello!  Writing for 2 different blogs www.ShopwithPippa.com and www.TooCheapBlondes.com , both about thrifting, Jen and I have had the opportunity to meet so many people, it would surprise you who thrifts.  I guess we are a few of the brave souls who are proud about it and will actually admit it!

Here is a reader and a thrifted outfit that she put together from reading the blog, LOVE this!

Pinterest Inspired Thrift Store Silver Tray / Chalkboard Paint

Pinterest Inspired Thrift Store Silver Tray / Chalkboard Paint

I saw this fabulous tray on Pinterest and I had to try this DIY project!

First of all I found this tray for $1.99 at a thrift store and then bought chalkboard paint for .79

Silver tray for $1.99 @ a Thrift Store, old mens tie and chalk board paint for .79

Silver tray for $1.99 @ a Thrift Store, old mens tie and chalk board paint for .79

Super, super easy project!!!

First of all apply the paint in a vertical direction, let it dry one hour and then apply in a horizontal direction.

Not only can you use this tray as a chalk board but it is also magnetic!

I made a bow out of a mens tie and applied it with a hot glue gun.

Pinterest, Thrifting, Organizing my Closet and Noodles in my Boots!

Constantly shopping at Thrift Stores has both good and bad points.  The good is that you find incredible deals on gorgeous clothing!  The bad is that this has created a major issue for my closet, I can’t fit all of the fabulous stuff inside!

The best part about thrift shopping is that I have been able to upgrade most of my clothing to designer name brands, which are usually higher quality fabrics, lined and fit better.

I decided to take on the tedious task of cleaning out my closet and it turned out to be a much larger chore than I thought it would be.

Uggh ... cleaning out my closet is a lot of work!

Uggh … cleaning out my closet is a lot of work!

It is quite hard for me to get rid of things!  I have so many good memories as I look at each item but you can only have so many black skirts, white blouses or yellow cardigans.

One of my boards on Pinterest “Organization” had a fabulous idea of using swim noodles as a form to hold your boots in shape.

Cut swim noodles to help your boots keep their shape

Unfortunately the Dollar Store doesn’t carry swim noodles this time of year so I helped myself to our swimming supplies.

(sorry kids!  I will buy more in the Spring)

Using an electric knife I cut these noodles into different lengths to fill my boots.

WOW … I am Loving this and how it makes my closet look so organized!

Hat found on Clearance at Target … for under $5

It takes confidence to wear a hat, being it is such a fashion statement!   On Pinterest I see hats all the time and think they look so cool and mysterious (on someone else!).

I prefer the fedora hats because of the sexy look, with the front angle of the hat drawing people’s attention to your eyes and also how it gives a sense of style to a casual outfit.

Do you like to wear hats?   Do you like hats on other people?
