What the Mannequin wore for Halloween … Sorry I left you hanging 🙂

I needed a break from blogging for a few days and forgot to post the mannequin!  So sorry but thank you for all the messages.

She was a sexy witch this year and unfortunately the poster is covering up her skirt 🙂

I did have a little boy lift up her dress to see what was underneath it and then of course the dad had to follow suit.

I saw this fabulous tray on Pinterest and I had to try this DIY project!

Super, super easy project!!!

First of all apply the paint in a vertical direction, let it dry one hour and then apply in a horizontal direction.

Not only can you use this tray as a chalk board but it is also magnetic!

I made a bow out of a mens tie and applied it with a hot glue gun.

News Segment, Tanked, Goodwill Grand Opening, Gruene and a few Moments!

News Segment, Tanked, Goodwill Grand Opening, Gruene and a few Moments!

As we go through life it is the special moments that we remember.  Of course having teenagers it is becoming harder and harder for everyone to find the  time to be together, too enjoy those moments.  This past weekend Goodwill of San Antonio was celebrating a Grand Opening of one of their new stores and as one of their “Official Bloggers” I was invited to come to teach a workshop.   They also asked me to do the news segment on Saturday morning so I wanted to bring my girls along to model some thrifted items from Goodwill.  Everyone had reasons and excuses (football game, friends, sleepover, birthday party) to not come but finally everyone decided to join me.

It started out with a road trip from Houston to San Antonio Friday night being we had to be at KENS 5 News at 7:00AM.   Yes, it was a stressful morning starting out with showing up at the wrong address (the confirmation sheet had the wrong address) fortunately it was only 11 miles away to the TV station.   We got there and both Maddy and Sammy realized that while they were getting coffee in the lobby of the hotel, they had left their shoes  (GRRRRRRRRRRR).   We got to the back of the station and the intercom system to buzz us in was temporarily out of order.   Finally someone was leaving the station so we were able to get in the door.  Whew ….   Fortunately from then on everything went smooth!

The guys from “Tanked” on Animal Planet, were interviewed right before us so the girls got to meet them and get a picture with them.   They really, really liked Maddy in that leather dress 🙂

From here we quickly had breakfast, packed up, checked-out and drove to the Goodwill store for the blogger work shops I was a part of.   I will share more about that tomorrow but it was great to meet these ladies in person.   Of course we did some shopping in this fabulous new 14,000 square foot store!  Located at 3730 North Loop 1604 East (Loop 1604 and Bulverde Rd)

After the event we drove to San Marcus, where Maddy attends college, and had dinner before falling asleep by 10PM on a Saturday night!   We had a wonderful but slow morning, beginning with breakfast, working out, watching an old Disney movie, jump-start Maddy’s car (she left the lights on) and then headed to Gruene, Texas.

Gruene is one of those charming towns that is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, you feel like you have gone back in time.   Gruene is definitely all things Texas, from the shopping to the music.   The oldest dance hall in Texas, Gruene Hall, is a must see!   You can walk everywhere in this pint sized town and live music can be heard in several locations.   During the summer months you can float the river in tubes!

This past weekend was one of the busiest that I have had in a long time but it turned out to be so much fun!   We had so many of those special moments, being silly and spending time together.

We had to head back Sunday night because “Too Cheap Blondes” had to film 2 segments with FOX on Monday morning.  You can see the girls had a fabulous time and took a much needed nap!

I got to “Shop Jens Closet”!

I got to “Shop Jens Closet”!

I have a TV interview in San Antonio tomorrow and I know that I want to wear this leather skirt with tights and booties.   Here in Texas we still have temperatures in the low 90’s so I need wear something cooler on the top.   I wasn’t crazy about any of the blouses or tops with my skirt so guess what I did … I asked Jen “can I borrow something from your closet?”.    She has a fabulous, amazing thrifted closet, almost 99% is from a thrift store!

Thrifting to Get Through It

THRIFTING TO GET THROUGH IT

Nobody told me how hard it was going to be to help my oldest go to college.  Well let me tell you, if it wasn’t for having to write a review on a thrift store near my daughter’s college, I would have been a basket case.

Besides being the first time I have stayed in a hotel by myself, I was feeling quite emotional.  Fortunately  I had made commitments that kept me very busy while Maddy was picking out all her classes and getting prepared to enter into the next part of her life.

Here is Maddy modeling one of her many thrifted outfits. College Wardrobe on a Thrift Store Budget.

I don’t know if the thrifting thing is bleeding over into all parts of my life or I was wanting to suffer because of my parental sadness, but I stayed at the cheapest hotel I could find and got a foot long Subway sandwich that was both my dinner and my breakfast.  I think my total expenses for the night were less than a hundred dollars and that included some incredible treasures during my review of the thrift stores.

Staying busy and escaping into my thrifting world got me through the registration weekend.  That was a few weeks ago.  Things haven’t gotten much easier.  The house is a lot quieter with one less kid, and I have a new closet to put my thrift treasures in.  It helps when she calls and wants us to come see her.  That will happen soon along with more reviews of thrift stores near you.

Pinterest, Thrifting, Organizing my Closet and Noodles in my Boots!

Constantly shopping at Thrift Stores has both good and bad points.  The good is that you find incredible deals on gorgeous clothing!  The bad is that this has created a major issue for my closet, I can’t fit all of the fabulous stuff inside!

The best part about thrift shopping is that I have been able to upgrade most of my clothing to designer name brands, which are usually higher quality fabrics, lined and fit better.

I decided to take on the tedious task of cleaning out my closet and it turned out to be a much larger chore than I thought it would be.

Uggh ... cleaning out my closet is a lot of work!

Uggh … cleaning out my closet is a lot of work!

It is quite hard for me to get rid of things!  I have so many good memories as I look at each item but you can only have so many black skirts, white blouses or yellow cardigans.

One of my boards on Pinterest “Organization” had a fabulous idea of using swim noodles as a form to hold your boots in shape.

Unfortunately the Dollar Store doesn’t carry swim noodles this time of year so I helped myself to our swimming supplies.

(sorry kids!  I will buy more in the Spring)

Using an electric knife I cut these noodles into different lengths to fill my boots.

WOW … I am Loving this and how it makes my closet look so organized!
