Bow Bracelets! Ugly fashion or wrong size, but COOL Fabric … What to Do

Ugly fashion or wrong size, but COOL Fabric … What to Do!

How many times have you come across a super ugly dress, or the wrong size blouse or pants at a thrift store, but darn they are made out of great fabric!    Of course I always put it in my cart, pushing it around the entire time, hoping I can think of a way to make this item work for me … ha ha!    Now I have found the perfect solution … make a Bow Bracelet!

Preppy Bow Bracelet

Here is a great example … this Lilly Pulitzer “house dress” is not the cutest thing or even close to it.   Maybe 30 years ago a house dress was in style?

Or this little girl dress (my little girl is 14, this won’t work!) …

Soooo on Pinterest (here is a link to my Thrift Store Board) I found this awesome idea of making “bow” bracelets out of fabric!   Make them from different clothing that has fantastic fabric or from men’s silk ties.  The prices of clothing @ San Antonio Goodwill stores are cheap!!!!  Silk Ties only $1.99, Dresses $5.99  @ San Antonio Goodwill stores … AMAZING prices!

Here are some ideas:  I think you could make 50+ bow bracelets from one dress!   Sell them, eeek …. they sell from $20 -$40 each or give them as gifts.  What a fun way to use adorable fabric.   If you know me … you know what your next gift will be 🙂

A Thrifted Valentines Birthday

In our house I get a double whammy on holiday décor with Valentines Day… Abby’s birthday is on the 15th! So in our house, hearts also mean birthday. I really, really, really tried to birth her on Valentines Day, (which my sister accidentally did 🙁 soooo not fair!!! ), but I was only 2 hours late and I always tell her that she is my little valentine baby!

I am LOVING this delicate silver / pearl princess crown that Jen and I found for .99

Of course I have my iron tree that I decorate for all occasions.   It was so much fun to listen to all the teen-age girls this year tell Abby how cool it was that her mom does all this artsy stuff for her.  I was even tempted to walk in the room and pat myself on the back … ha

They loved it and to hear her friends describe what I always do with the tree for numerous occasions, assured to me that it is memorable, it makes a difference and they love it.  As much as they are aloof, they LOVE the attention!!!!!!!!!!!

If you can’t find an iron tree (believe me, I have looked for years to offer to sell one to my readers … still looking) I used a pink or white Christmas tree before that.   Those 2 colors pretty much go with all occasions but Halloween and Thanksgiving.

Too Cheap Blondes recently shot an upcoming episode with Mirror/Mirror, teaching you how to re-create a “style” with either a magazine article or a Pinterest pin.

We had such a fun time creating this episode at Goodwill River Oaks in Houston, Texas.  They have agreed to put aside all the clothing from this episode and put them out on special rack “As Seen on Mirror/Mirror”.

Thrifting in College Station

Thrifting in College Station

I am married to an Aggie, being from Oregon I didn’t really care but I have found out that it is a BIG deal if you live in Texas, you are either for Texas or an AG.

Honestly, I love to go to sporting events for all the peripheral things going on …. the cheer leaders, crowd watching, “air guitars” on the screen, fights and anything else that catches my attention.

Texas =Big Hair … I grew up thinking everyone in Texas had big hair!  🙂

Ok ... lets start with the obvious ... Texas is known for BIG hair!

This weekend we went to the mens basketball game on Saturday and then the women’s game on Sunday.   I finally asked if I could have a few minutes in a thrift store 🙂   the only thing I could find open on a Sunday was Goodwill.    I love to visit thrift stores in other towns!  First of all I pre-judged, being I was in a college town, I thought the students would clean out a thrift store … I was wrong, there was tons of good stuff!!!!

Being that I lived in Oregon until 10 years ago, I have to admit that I find some things in Texas amusing.  Don’t get me wrong, I love Texas and I love the things that make Texas unique.   This is my favorite bumper sticker …

I wasn't born in Texas but I got here as fast as I could!!!!!! My favorite bumper sticker!

While thrift store shopping you can definitely feel a quality fabric, such as this REISS dress, Too Cheap Blondes recently found at Goodwill for only $9.99!

Never say Never ….

For those of you who thrift there is always that store that you think is not worth your time or they NEVER have anything good.   Yes, yes, I totally get that.

Today, Jen and I (www.TooCheapBlondes.com) , met with a writer for a local magazine and after talking about thrifting for hours we wanted to shop!

Unfortunately, we only had about 30 minutes and we both didn’t want to go the store that “Never has anything good”.

Well, fortunately we did ….. Here is part I, we will post part II tomorrow

Conroe Assistance League Style Show

I was recently invited to take pictures of a Fashion/Style Show @ Conroe Assistance League.  Of course I love to promote charities in my community that have helped over 4000 children in Montgomery County this past year (with Operation School Bell) but this show had a special place in my heart … my Mother-in-law was a model!
