That funky piece of ART …. what are You?

That funky piece of ART …. What are You?

I recently did a fashion show with Goodwill in San Antonio.  What a completely fun and fabulous day that I got to spend with a few other spectacular bloggers Pam Lutrell (Over50feeling40) and Agosto Cuellar (www.jiverefried.blogspot.com).   I will share more of both behind the scenes and the fashion next week.

Kens 5 TV SAN ANTONIO — Shoes, shirts and skirts were flouncing away at the Goodwill WORK IT! Fashion show Saturday.

“We wanted to show folks there are great treasures to be found on every rack and every shelf here at Goodwill and that all it takes it a little creativity and a little imagination to put some fabulous finds together,” said Penny Benavidez with Goodwill.

It was more than just fashion getting a second chance.

“Every dollar, every donation is help us fund the many educational programs and services that assist people in finding jobs and building careers,” Benavidez said.

Fashion bloggers Pippa Williams, Agosto Cuellar and Pam Lutrell helped coordinate the outfits.

“This is awesome, I want to teach people how to thrift,” Williams said. “So for pennies on the dollar, I’ll take a look from Pinterest and recreate it.”

Cuellar said Goodwill is an essential resource for fashion artists.

“Goodwill has been a big part of what I’ve been doing my entire life as an artist: creating and remixing garments,” Cuellar said. “So I think that Goodwill is a supplier on a lot of artist that are on a budget. You can actual experiment. If it doesn’t go the way you want it to go, give it another shot because Goodwill is filled with stuff.”

My "artsy" find @ Goodwill

My “artsy” find @ Goodwill

The whole day was focused on making the show a success (and it was!).   At the end of the day I slipped off my heels and put on my flip flops, ready for a nap ….. wait …. this funky piece of ART caught my eye as I was walking out of Goodwill!   I bought it as a reminder as my first fashion show … I have to say that I am completely in love with the imperfection and lumpiness of this vase.   Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder.  My mom thought it was a bit rustic (if I remember correctly, she called it Ugly).  When she saw it on my kitchen island with my other “artsy” vases,  she had to admit its unique characteristics made it seem beautiful and fit in perfectly!

Regardless of your imperfections and lumps, there is a place for you in life.  You might not know where that path will lead you but follow the doors that open and bloom where you are planted!

This was my first visit to this Goodwill Dezavala store.  Doesn’t the word Dezavala sounds glamorous, something like Zaza Gabor?

If you read my blog you know that I absolutely LOVE and adore dishes and I hit the jackpot at this store!

Let me share a few highlights of what caught my eye.

Everyone has a Tiny Bit of sunshine SOMEWHERE in their life. Find it!

There is always a bit of happy … Look for the bright spot!

Watching my dog today lay in the tiniest, sliver of sun gave me a mini life lesson about happiness and looking for the bright spot.

If you look very close you will see my white, fluffy dog "Dude" laying in the sliver of sunshine!

If you look very close you will see my white, fluffy dog “Dude” laying in the sliver of sunshine!

It so easy for my dog “Dude” to find comfort in 99% of the house but he chooses to focus on that 1% of sunshine.

This picture shows that only a few inches of the direct light gets in and of course my dog always finds it.  I have done everything I can to keep his itty bitty 4 pound body warm with sweaters, beds in multiple rooms, even a heating pad for the extra cold days, but he would rather lay in the miniscule bright spot!

I watch him and it makes me think that there is ALWAYS a tiny bit of sunshine somewhere in your life … YOU have to find it!

Enjoy your holiday season with family and friends, keeping focus on the positive!    pippa (and Dude)

Jen and I (Too Cheap Blondes) filmed a segment yesterday @ Family Thrift OUTLET store … Every single item in the store was only .25   (this will air on ABC / Stretch your Dollar  December 10th 4:55PM)

I found a Pendleton Wool skirt and not sure if it was worth keeping I tossed it in the cart.   Before we film, we decide what is camera worthy.  As I hung the skirt up on our clothes rack, adjusting it just right on the hanger, I realized that this skirt was the official Mac Lennan plaid!   Have you seen my three little McLennans????

Now keep in mind that a plaid Pendleton skirt retails for $179 so finding this skirt for .25 is AWESOME but that it is the official McLennan Scottish plaid makes me soooo happy!

I saw this fabulous tray on Pinterest and I had to try this DIY project!

First of all I found this tray for $1.99 at a thrift store and then bought chalkboard paint for .79

Super, super easy project!!!

First of all apply the paint in a vertical direction, let it dry one hour and then apply in a horizontal direction.

Not only can you use this tray as a chalk board but it is also magnetic!

I am becoming SOOOO CHEAP! Houston Cheapest Thrift Blogger!

I am becoming SOOOO CHEAP!  Houston’s Cheapest Thrift Blogger.

Ok .. Maybe all of this thrifting is becoming a lifestyle.

Too Cheap Blondes have recently been named the Queen (s) of Thrifting!

Too Cheap Blondes have recently been named the Queen (s) of Thrifting!

The same as a “healthy” lifestyle …. exercising and choosing to eat better foods, we all know diets do not work.

It is becoming hard to pay retail for anything!   (Hotel, cheap gas, outlet malls, groceries, etc …)  I went grocery shopping this morning @ Kroger and they were marking down the meat … I stayed there until they finished labeling them and bought all of it.

Lots of turkey and some filet mignon! My freezer is full :)

WHAT is wrong with me????    I guess CHEAP is becoming a way of life!

I left Kroger Grocery Store, with my marked down meat, feeling just as good as when I leave a Thrift Store!
